This photo looks north along the East River waterfront pathway at what would be 18th Street. The skyline is comprised of mostly the towers of Stuyvesant Town, a upper-middle-class apartment complex from the 1940s built atop a neighborhood known as the Gas House District. Beyond that is the iconic Empire State Building.
