This photo looks south across the Great Lawn of Central Park, from roughly between 84th & 85th Streets. The Great Lawn used to be a reservoir, providing fresh water to the city years before Central Park existed. When better water distribution systems were built decades later, the reservoir was demolished and the area was turned into the Great Lawn.
