Old Police HQ, 7/24/2020

This photo shows the Centre Street facade of the old New York Police Headquarters building. This was built as part of a wave of grand new civic structures erected as a result of the 1898 consolidation of the 5 boroughs into the City of Greater New York. The massive new city needed equally massive new government buildings, and this Police HQ fit the bill. Completed in 1909, it was decommissioned in 1973 and was converted into apartments in 1988.
