This photo depicts Jeffrey’s Hook Light, more commonly known as the Little Red Lighthouse. Originally built on Sandy Hook, New Jersey, in 1889, it was moved to Manhattan in 1921. It stands in the shadow of the much larger George Washington Bridge, and the pair were featured in a popular 1950s children’s book.
